Congratulations WUFA 04 Girls Navy! Playing another tournament up an age group in U15, the girls once again showed their class. Our girls finished with back-to-back wins over local rivals to take the championship, despite being shorthanded on reserves. Well done! Congrats also go to our WUFA 05 Boys Gray team for pushing the finals match to penalties, but fell a hair short of being champions. Kudos, boys.
It was a great weekend for WUFA teams in Myrtle Beach. The wind was a howling banshee all weekend long which took some adjusting for every team. Once we got acclimated to the conditions, we settled down and played some quality matches. Of the 7 teams participating in the Can Am Cup, 4 were finalists and 3 finished as champions. Well done WUFA!
The 04 Girls had a strong showing playing another tournament against older competition. And another quality tournament from start to finish, just falling short in the finals, 1-0. They one the first match vs. WFC but lost the rematch in the finals.
The WUFA 08 Boys Navy also had a good tournament, losing 8-7 in the final. They also won their first, but lost in a rematch. A little growing paiins, but builds character. Nice job both teams.
The WUFA 04 Girls decided to take a trip to Atlanta to compete in the Concorde Fire Challenge Cup-Girls. Competition was some of the best in the southeast region, with teams from Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Despite the stiff competion, our girls fought hard and made it to the finals before losing a close match to a solid Charlotte team. Keep it up, girls!
The Beast of the East in Greenville, NC earned its name due to cold and rainy weather. Overall a great experience for our WUFA teams. Our 04 Girls Navy team came away triumphant with a solid weekend, coasting away as champions. The girls controlled each game with poise and confidence, yielding only a few goals while netting a bunch. Great job, girls!
Our 06 Boys Navy team also were finalists for WUFA. Great effort, boys.
A beautiful weekend in Savannah was a perfect setting for WUFA's season ending tournament. Many WUFA teams accomplished milestones in Georgia. The 06 Girls Navy team reached their first final and won their first championship. They only allowed one goal against all weekend and won the finale on penalties. Our 08 Boys Navy also made their first final after winning their previous 3 games of the tournament. They lost 3-4 in a well fought game to a team they had previously beat. Our 07 Boys Gray won all their games except a heartbreaking loss on penalties in the semifinals to the eventual champs. The 04 Girls Navy only conceded 1 goal against all weekend and ended with 3 wins and a draw. Sadly they finished behind the team they tied, who scored one more goal than we did. Other team of note was the 05 Boys Gray finished 2nd in their division. Well done boys.
The Wilmington United Futbol Academy 06G Navy celebrates their first tournament championship at the Savannah United Finale. Finishing first in pool play via an exciting 1-0 win on Sunday morning they had to face the same team in the championship game three hours later. In a tense back and forth match the WUFA girls demonstrated skill, tenacity, and heart. With the match ending at 0-0 after regulation and OT the champion was to be decided by penalty kicks. On the 9th kick with the keepers facing off against each other the team prevailed at Katie Macleer powered home the winner to take the victory 6/5. Thanks are in order for the families and friends for their support and encouragement. And a big shout out to the team for trusting the process and working with incredible effort to grow and improve over the course of the season. Over the four matches the team did not allow a goal in the run of play with the only goal allowed off a PK late in their second game proving out the old adage, "defense wins championships."
Out of our 10 teams, 4 finished first or second and all teams made strides from their previous tournament. Our WUFA 04 Girls Navy team dominated play allowing only one goal against while scoring 16 goals in the weekend. Our WUFA 06 Boys Navy team experience an early setback but finished strong to take home the trophy too. Meanwhile, our WUFA 05 Boys Navy and WUFA 08 Boys Navy lost in the finals. All teams had at least one win this weekend and had a number of positives to take home from the weekend. Great job WUFA!
Our WUFA 04 Girls team made it back on the podium after a well fought weekend. Coming back from a deficit in the finals, our girls equalized the score, sending the match into extra time. Eventually, the game was resolved in penalties where our narrowly outshot their opponent 5-4 for the WIN!!! Great Job.
Congratulations ot the WUFA 05 Boys Navy team for winning the Championship of the Can Am Cup in Myrtle Beach on 3/8. With key players out, the team stepped up their game and improved throughout the tournament.

Congrats to the 05 WUFA Gray Boys for their hard work in winning the Beast of the East tournament. Nice work, boys!!! Also, our 06 WUFA Boys and 05 WUFA Navy Boys reached the finals and lost in very closely contested matches that came down to the wire. It was a great weekend for WUFA as a club too. Greensboro, NCWilmington United's much improved 04 WUFA Girls team made great strides with a dominant performance at the Adidas Clash tournament in Greensboro, NC. Not only did they go undefeated and take home the crown, but they conceded no (yes, "zero") goals in the process. In the not so distant past, shots on goal for our girls were not a common phenomenon. The tables have turned significantly in opportunities, balls on frame and balls in the back of the net. 9 (nine) different girls scored this weekend and 13 goals total with a clean sheet in every game. This was a great team effort and we are proud of their heart and progress. Go Blue!
